Turn Away from the Problem and Think About God, Emmet Fox

Dear Friends,

We are in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season and if you are like me, you have a daily “to do” list. Mine is usually long and sometimes overwhelming. As part of my morning spiritual practice, I journal write and I also write out prayers for family, friends and myself. In the past month I have been creating “to do” lists in my journals. Normally I write them out on a separate sheet of paper and keep by my desk. Now I do both.

I have created my “to do” list in the form of a prayer. I believe there is a blessing when the name of GOD appears anywhere and especially on a sheet of paper. My to do list becomes a prayer treatment. I also add, “All this and/or something better.” The beautiful words of Emmet Fox crosses my mind,  “Turn away from the problem and think about GOD!” So after my written “to do” prayer, I write down all the words describing God pertinent to the prayer list. Then I sit back and quietly meditate on peace and gratitude. Each day I reread the prayers from the day before and have been amazed at the uncanny demonstrations! Truly more good happened than on my list.

Two examples I want to share with you.

One, I was expecting a gift delivery and it kept being delayed. Since I had to send it across the country I was concerned it would not arrive in time. It was now on my list for GOD to arrange delivery. It arrived that day, before the scheduled time!!!

Second, was a demonstration with the DMV! My REAL ID has been on my mind since the first of this year, with last MAY being the due date to have one in order to travel on airlines. I had no plans to take a flight, and I had my Passport as a backup. May came and went and because of all the other house, health, and jury duty challenges, I kept putting it off. October came and I knew I had to take care of this because my Drivers License was coming up for renewal in December. I called the DMV several times. My computer would not let me process the application on line so I went down to the DMV for help. I was able to complete the application on their computers. However I still needed an appointment. One DVM lady, said to wait until December close to my birthday. I felt unsettled about that so I called again. This time I made an appointment for Dec. 9th. Good thing I did since they were booked Oct. and Nov.

December 9th came. I had ALL the paper work needed to prove I was who I am. Passport, birth certificate, marriage license, social security card, drivers license and bills to prove my residency. I was very anxious and nervous because I also knew I needed a vision test. I wasn’t sure if they would require a written test. So I read the test booklet just in case. For some people this may seem easy and effortless, for me it was worrisome. I prayed and wrote out the prayer declaring the day would be easy and effortless. I turned the problem and the appointment over to GOD while thinking about all the wonderful aspects, qualities, virtues of GOD. Somewhere in that prayer, written and oral, I had a sense of PEACE come over me. Even as I was driving to the DMV, part of me started to feel anxious and then, the PEACE that passes understanding came over me. I kept feeling that PEACE as I got closer, and found an easy parking spot.

I walked in and the place was practically empty. Whoa…. this was the scary DMV??? I was second in line. My number was called right away. The clerk was friendly and helpful and I had all the paper work in order, even copies which they did not take. The gentleman said they scan the paperwork. I passed the vision test even with my contacts, one for long distance and one for reading.

The photo was quick. I was only third in line. I noticed the lady holding her jaw and when it was my turn, I asked if she was OK. She was in pain due to a toothache and was looking forward to getting to her dental appointment soon. We talked and I said I would pray for her. She smiled and said thank you.

I was done! I walked out of the DMD 25 minutes after I arrived and before my scheduled appointment! Can I say “Thank You GOD!” Yes, I can and yes I did!

Put a blessing and prayer on your to do list. Think about God. Hand it over to the SPIRIT of GOD within you and not only will your day be blessed, you will be a blessing to someone else.!
