The Opposite of Hate

“When knowledge is shared, awareness and understanding become greater.

Myths, and misconceptions are dissipated, and barriers of fear melt away.”     Rev. Dr. Abigail Albert

Dear Friends,

I am reading the book, The Opposite of Hate: a Field Guide to Repairing Our Humanity by Sally Kohn.  The book is an eye-opener for all people who have extreme differences of opinion and sometimes filled with anger due to politics and religion.  She shares her research into WHY people are so angry and hateful.  What I found most important is what really is the opposite of hate.  It isn’t love, or peace, it is CONNECTION.  Here are some of her research observations:

  • “Hate is premised on a mind-set of otherizing. Dehumanizing others is the essential root of hate. We put ourselves on a superiority pedestal.
  • No one is hardwired to hate transgender people, black people, poor people, Muslims, Republicans  or Democrats. Our tendency towards “tribalism” makes us quick to latch on to society’s existing prejudices and burrow deeper into habits of hate.
  • The reflection of society we’ve created is a reflection of ourselves. We can’t change the world until we change ourselves.  Our first step is challenging the hate inside ourselves, to be conscious of our own hate in all it forms.
  • We are all fundamentally linked and equal as human beings and we must support policies and institutions that bring us together, rather than divide us. When we come together in connection-spaces we begin to talk to each other differently with open-mindedness, kindness and compassion of connection -speech.”

Every time Steve and I go to an event or hold an event we meet new people, and create bonds and friendships where we never thought we would.  When we talk and connect with others, the ‘other’ becomes important to us. He or she becomes someone we know personally. It doesn’t matter what faith, race or politics. When we know someone personally, we view them as a new friend.  Friends can agree and disagree on issues, however friends also ‘have each others backs and will stand up for each other.’

Simple Example:

The other day I was in the Verizon store getting my cell phone fixed. Another lady walked in and began waiting patiently until “Kris” was finished with my phone.  As time moved on, I began to be uncomfortable knowing she was waiting. I decided to engage her in conversation.

I apologized for taking so long.  She smiled, I smiled, and a connection was made.   She told me she lost her phone.  Immediately in that one statement both Kris and I looked at her in compassion, knowing losing a phone and all its information can be devastating with far reaching scenarios.   All of a sudden I felt connected to her, a complete stranger.  Connection  brings about understanding and compassion.  I am sure once Kris (notice I used his name , not his position) helped her even more once understanding her situation.

A simple reaching out can make all the difference in the world.

Reach out to all  and at least ask them their name.  Knowing a person’s name starts the connection.

In Love and Connection,

Abigail

Talk Less, Slow Down

Dear Friends,

I came across an article in the May ‘Science of Mind Magazine’ by Mark Waldman and Andrew Newberg about how our brain can only absorb about 5- 10 words and recall them accurately. That is only one sentence or 10 seconds.
They also said the slower you speak the better people retain what you said. In this day and age when everything seems to be going so fast, I feel dazed at times.
Have you noticed the rapid speech on TV shows?  Sometimes we have to rewind them just to figure out what someone said.
Time…    to …   slow …   down …  .
Knowing this about our beautiful brains will help us when we are in a  conversation and want to make a point.  If we can keep our sentences slow and short, they will remember what we said.  We have all been around very expressive people who do not seem to even take a breath when they talk. It is  hard to break in and say, “I agree, I disagree or I have to leave now.”
We all know how important our words are. For they come forth from a belief, and then a thought. Let us make our words be profound, uplifting, encouraging,  beatific and short.
I know in reality we will say many more words in conversation, however be mindful of who is listening to you and for how long. If you are telling a story be sure to pause occasionally and read people’s expression and body language to know if you need to wind it up.
It is better to hear,  “Go on, I can’t wait to hear the end,” rather than see,  ‘the deer in the headlights look.’
Short, Soulful and Slowful,
Abigail

Meaning of Life

Dear Friends,
The other day, Steve and I were talking about the MEANING of LIFE. It is a big topic and I believe the meaning of life is different for everyone due to their personal life experiences.
I would like to share my thoughts about the Meaning of Life in an acronym.
L – LOVE unconditionally. To live is to love without strings attached or expectation of
something in return.
LIVE your life to the fullest with purpose and passion.
I – INSPIRE others to BE their Highest, Greatest and Best Selves. Lift up, not put down.
Follow your INTUITION (God’s Guidance).
F – FORGIVE yourself and forgive others. Forgiving is a Gift you give yourself and others.
E – EMBRACE and actively BE with ALL people regardless of race, color, creed, ethnicity,
gender preference and religion. A beautiful flower garden is beautiful because no
two flowers are alike.
I love the words of Karen Drucker’s Song “You Are the Face of God”

You are the face of God
I hold you in my heart,
You are a part of me
You are the face of God…

You are the face of love
I hold you in my heart
You are my family
You are the face of God

Everyone you look at is the Face of God and we are ONE Family.
Lovingly, Your Sister,
Abigail

Embrace Change

Dear Friends,

CHANGE is the only constant in the Universe.  In the past weeks,  I have been with people who are experiencing major changes in their lives:
Moving from one house to another, different city, different state.
Being layed off from a job they love.
Looking for a new job.
People passing out of our lives, either by leaving the area or moving on to the other side.
Committees, teams changing and learning new ways to work with different people.
Unexpected house and car repairs/replacement
Unexpected health challenges
And much more…
One thing I know for sure is, everything is meant to bless us.  Our attitude and perspective really begin to create the next rung on the ladder.   We have to trust when we let go of one step, there is another step waiting for us.   God’s Will is to Bless and Prosper us.
If we get stuck on the same old merry-go-round, Spirit will find a way to move us or push us off. Nothing stays the same and we are meant to progress and evolve into our greater and higher Selves.  Sometimes it feels like we are kicked in the pants or hit by a 2×4.  These new experiences are not meant to be “bad,” just a wake up call for us to make some changes in our lives and evolve into a greater vision of ourselves.
When we are in this changing process, it is a great time to VISION for what we  really want next in our lives.  Dr. Michael Beckwith shared his ‘Life Visioning Process ‘ in theScience of Mind” magazine this month.  Even if you have not had a change in your life lately, and yet feel a bit dull and purposeless,  try the  Visioning Process.  Your inner God guidance DOES KNOW what you want and need.  Allow it speak to you.
Life Visioning Process Steps to take:
“Find a quiet location and meditate to calm your thoughts and activate your intuition.
Remember, Absolute LOVE is always given, not earned.  Know and accept Divine Love only wants the best for you!
Ask your Higher Self.
What is the Highest Vision of my life? What seeks to emerge in, through and as my life?
What must I become in order to manifest this vision?
What must I release to manifest this vision?
What talents, gifts, skills and qualities do I already possess that will serve this vision?
Give yourself a sacred heartfelt YES, trusting more shall be revealed.
Be grateful and know your Vision is already taking place and in form.”
This is a beautiful process to use at anytime in your life.  Change is Good. Surrender to a Higher Vision of your life. Be it and embrace it.  The Universe is always saying YES for your Highest and Best!
Blessings,
Abigail

Sing Your Song

“The sun’s rays have vision and give us vision. However, it is the birds’ eyes and the two invisible angels by your side that record everything. Nothing goes unnoticed throughout the universe. Wherever there is a vibration, there are eyes and ears. Some energies don’t need ears or vision to see or hear, they can feel what is in your heart and tap into all your sins and fears.”
Suzy Kassem, Rise Up and Salute the Sun: The Writings of Suzy Kassem

May 1, 2018
Dear Friends,
Today on my walk, I heard so many birds singing their little hearts out. I passed one, high in a tree, singing so loudly, and with such exuberance!! I had to stop, listen and watch the joy of song coming through this little bird. It reminded me how important it is to “sing our own song”
I love to sing in the car. That gives me a sense of joy, and sacredness because I only have music that is uplifting and fun in my car. Singing also brings me peace.
One does not have to sing to be happy.
Doing a kindness for another will make your heart sing.
Being a part of a group that helps and supports others with the intention of Good, will make you happy.
Doing an activity or hobby you love to do will make you feel joy and contentment.
What do you love? What makes you happy? What makes your heart sing?
When we are happy, our spiritual vibration is UP and that energy ripples out to all we see and meet during the day. Our happy vibration can travel around the world and affect a person we do not know and may never meet. In our world today, being happy, singing our song (voice, dance, activity, hobby) will contribute to the Consciousness of our planet and raise its vibrations of Good in, through and for all.
Let us do our part for our human family and be happy.
Sing your song,
Speak your truth
Be who God intended you to be.
Joyfully Singing,
Abigail

Pay it Forward Wave of Good

I love the idea of a WAVE of GOOD flowing all around the earth.  We can make this happen in so many ways.  As you know on May 5th the WAVE will be walking as ONE at 1pm with people of all faiths, cultures, ethnicities on labyrinths all around the world. This walking meditation of Peace and intention of Love and Healing can have a dramatic affect on everyone and Mother Earth.
There is another WAVE of GOOD coming on Wednesday, April  25th because it is
PAY IT FORWARD DAY.   I loved the precious movie, “Pay It Forward” where a little boy with a limited time to live, has one request, PAY good forward.  Do something for another person without expectation of return.
Here is a lovely story of a coffee shop in Canada where everyone, almost, paid for someone elses coffee.
April 25th is PAY it FORWARD DAY
By Lesley Ciarula Taylor Staff Reporter
Mon., Dec. 31
For three full hours and 228 orders, a generous chain of Tim Hortons customers in Winnipeg
picked up the tab for the people behind them.”It was an avalanche of kindness,”
coffee chain spokeswoman Michelle Robichaud told the Star on Monday.Paying it forward isn’t uncommon at Timmie’s, she said, but no one had ever seen anything like this.
It started at about 10 a.m. at the drive-through window at Tim Hortons on Beaverhill Blvd.
in Winnipeg on Dec. 21. Light snow had been falling all morning, there were four shopping days until Christmas and  the temperature was minus-13.5C.
“There was a lot of excitement inside the restaurant. Staff were shouting out numbers like,
“It’s up to 147!” said Robichaud. Eventually, someone who had their four coffees paid for decided to break the chain and pulled away without paying for the three coffees behind him.
“There were more guests in line,” said Robichaud. “Who knows what their motivation was?”
April 25,  is International Pay it Forward Day.
tim_hortons_customers_pay_it_forward_228_times_in_winnipeg.html

This Wednesday, wherever you are and whatever you are doing, be mindful of people
around you.
Can you do an act of kindness?
Can you pay for someone’s coffee at Starbucks?
Can you pay for someone’s groceries in line?  Can you bring food to a local shelter?
Can you bring books you no longer read and give them to the library?
Can you weed out clothes that no longer serve you and give them away to someone who needs them now?
Can you make a sign for you car saying PAY IT FORWARD DAY!
Find at least ONE thing to be a part of the WAVE of Good and do it.
Enjoy your day!!!
Paying it Forward……..

Walking on Holy Ground

Dear Friends,
April 21st is Earth Day. I reflected on Mother Earth in my meditation this morning.
I felt so appreciative of this creative Mother Soul that holds us all on her loving ground.
It reminded me how holy the ground is, as we walk on her.
Do we pay attention to all the beauty that springs forth from her? Do we appreciate all the trees, flowers, plants, shrubs, bushes and water?

Mother Earth gives us food and nourishes every living thing.
I view beautiful hills and valleys behind my house and I am so grateful I have that view. It uplifts me in my morning prayers. With the news and all the drama and happenings on
this planet, she calms me after a busy day.
She supplies the path for me to walk, or ride on. I feel loved by her and in turn I love her.

How can we acknowledge our gratitude for Mother Earth and the living things close to her?
Pickup any trash you see as you walk by.
Pick up snails slowing moving on the street and place them softly on the ground
and grass.                                                                                                                           Thank her for her beauty and place where you are standing, walking or riding
(car or bike).
Recycle and begin to use more earth based cleaners and supplies.
Remember Mother Earth is a living breathing soul created by Source and here only to benefit ‘man-womankind.’
Let us be KIND to her. Hug her trees. Love her beauty. Care for her gently.

Loving our Mother,
Abigail

Spring Cleaning

Dear Friends,
It is Spring! I love this season. Even in California, we have our “winter,” maybe not as severe as the mid-west or east coast, however we still have a change in weather.
I love to see the tulips, the lilies the lilacs, the jacaranda trees and all the new growth blooming. Even the air smells good. Spring is the time of the year where we can start anew, and bloom again.
Where is it you would like to start anew? I am sure there are times in your lives when you “wished” you had said something, done something or been someone better.
Now is the time! You do not have to BE the old you. You can BE the NEW you.
It is like cleaning out closets in the Spring only it is cleaning out Consciousness. It is letting go of what no longer serves you. An old Consciousness based on fear, unworthiness, and sadness only holds you back. Being unforgiving blocks your good as well.
Ernest Holmes said,
“Change the consciousness and the false condition will disappear.”
What ever it is, it is time to Spring Clean Consciousness, and change those old tapes, thoughts and feelings. Allow the fresh air to blow in and breathe in the flow of love, wholeness, goodness, growth and God’s blessings
Lovingly Blooming,
Abigail

April is Multicultural Communications Month

April 3, 2018
Dear Friends,
I love that April is Multicultural Month! Let us celebrate all the beautiful and diverse people living on our earth with us. Being so involved with the Interfaith Movement, Steve and I meet many people of different faiths, cultures, races, ethnicities all the time. We realize everyone is a fellow traveler, in this thing we call life, doing the best they can, just like we are.
Are you in a faith center that embraces diversity? Sometimes centers are so focused on their own faith tradition, there isn’t room to include those not of their faith.
During this month, I challenge you to step forward and offer to create an “Interfaith Outreach” committee to plan various activities to get to know your neighbors.
Some suggestions are:
Bring in speakers to share about their faith traditions.
Plan an interfaith potluck to get to know another faith community near you.
Work together on a social issue or charity project.
Show movies such as “The Sultan and the Saint” to promote understanding.
When we work, eat and play together we make a stranger, a friend.
Remember, everyone is a child of God. Everyone is an emanation of the most High God. We all have God DNA in us. We are all Spiritual Beings having a human experience. We are connected at the Source, our Creator. We are one family.
Get to know your multicultural and interfaith brothers and sisters. See the Face of God in each one. You will be blessed.
Loving the Oneness,
Abigail
